THE NORTHINGTON - MUNGER - PRATT COMPANY

Birmingham, Alabama

After building a large plant for manufacturing gin machinery at Dallas, Texas, in 1890, R. S. Munger realized that in order to handle the Eastern trade, a plant was necessary somewhere east of the Mississippi River. He came to Alabama to look for a location, and due to its many natural advantages, he selected Birmingham as a location for his new plant. Mr. Munger interested W. T. Northington of Prattville and Daniel Pratt of the Daniel Pratt Gin Company in this new Company. The organization was incorporated in 1892 with the following officers: W. T. Northington, President, R. S. Munger, Vice President, and Daniel Pratt, Secretary and Treasurer. In 1897 M. P. Northington was made Secretary and S. I. Munger was made Treasurer.

As the Munger System became better known, a marvelous increase in sales followed. At the time the Company was purchased by Continental Gin Company in 1899, they were the largest producers of cotton ginning machinery east of the Mississippi River.
